The End of the Year
I don't know if we'll be awake at midnight tonight or not. My head hurts and DH and I are both tired. I think this has been a good year. The biggest change for me has been paying attention to my health and trying to figure out how to be a better wife and mother. Without the baggage of my upbringing. I look forward to 2008 and all the great things we have to look forward to.
Just want you all to know how much I love you and miss you and how much each of you means to me. You are all part of my healing processes and I'm so blessed to have you in my family.
Happy New Year!

Manic Sunday
I went to the grocery store today and on the way home it started to rain and now it's sleet. So we aren't going to church tonight.
When I checked on Baby to see if she was still sleeping, she had unzipped her tent, tore down the roller shade and ripped a large chunk of plastic off the window. What a stinker. Oh, and she had a stinky didie. I'm going to have to figure out a way to lock her in the tent, or she'll be falling out on her head.
DH has to work tomorrow and is off Tuesday. Then he's back to work Wednesday. It will take us awhile to get back to a normal schedule.
Last week when I was hitting the after-Christmas sales, I found some pretty ribbon at Joann Fabrics. It's yellow on one edge and blue on the other and as it fades into the other color there's a stripe of green in the middle. Anyway. I was thinking it was wired ribbon and it's not, but I think I'll still keep it. I bought all the rolls that were left (on clearance) and I plan to use it for the Mother/Daughter banquet next spring. Yesterday, this is the manic part, I came up with a theme (Living a Lemonade Life)and found a site that gave me more ideas for a ladies' program centered on lemons. I think it will look so pretty. I bought a fake lemon today and some styrofoam balls and I'm going to attempt to make some paper mache lemons. If they turn out, I'll go nuts and make a pile of them. I priced fake lemons and it would actually be cheaper to buy real lemons. I'll probably get some real ones, too, and mix them together in the decorating. I am not sure what color table cloths to use, but I think white plates and emerald green napkins would be pretty. Church has some pretty, large cobalt blue vases and I'm picturing one on each table with a yellow and white floral arrangement with a large ribbon bow and a garland of ivy, ribbon and lemons running down the middle of each long table. We'll probably use white candles, unless I can find emerald or cobalt colored tapers at a dollar store. The site I found suggests making up a recipe book with lemon recipes and having a menu that incorporates lemon. The problem I see is limiting the lemons, because at this point, I think I could go NUTS!
Well, enought about that. I need to fix something for dinner - the natives are STAAAARVING.

The Aftermath
I missed one of my favorite pictures of Baby - this was Sunday night before the program. Baby is so thrilled with her fancy shoes. I think she's so beautiful.
She's the Singing Chef! playing with her new kitchen.
Little Boy and Baby "working" on Baby's baby bed. Little Boy is the foreman.

She handles the drill like a pro. A pro wearing a tiara. She cracks me up.
I think that's all for now. I think I'm caught up.
You don't have to look at them all
I think I'll be ready to take down the tree soon. That's really unusual for me - I usually want to keep the tree up through January. We'll see.
I need to figure out what's for supper. Later.
Christmas Day

Then we let 'er rip - litter-ally.

Christmas Eve

Where has the week gone?

Sunday night was the kids' program and they were very cute. Little Boy was the best little shepherd and Baby stole the show. Check out the slide show from the program.

I don't need to say much!

Yea!
I also got my glasses fixed today. I braved the mall to go to the Pearl Vision store. One post (of 4) on the bridge had broken and I was keeping one lens straight with a little piece of scotch tape. I took them in and the store replaced the whole bridge piece. Only one little thing - my frames are burgundy and the new bridge piece is gold colored. BUT it was FREE! I have a check up scheduled for next week and then I'll know if I need new lenses and then I'll decide what to do about the frame. I bought some dark burgundy nail polish and may try to fix it.
I stopped to pick up pizza and there was an older man at the check out. I recognized him and he said, "Hi! I bet you didn't think you'd see me here, did you?" I thought it was a strange question, but I was thinking he was referring to the fact that he lives next door and I came all the way to Keyser to see him. I told him no, and asked how he was. He said good and that he was picking up pizza for the kids. I was thinking that I didn't realize he had company so soon before Christmas. I needed to run to the Hallmark store a couple stores away while they fixed my pizza, and said, "See you later, Lewis." He didn't respond, but I thought maybe he didn't hear me. I went to the Hallmark store and stopped at the Fashion Bug store, too. When I came back, he was still there. I tried to make some small talk and told him that my kids like his decorations in the front yard. He was confused; what decorations? I said the reindeer in the chimney and Santa. He told me he does not have a Santa in his yard. I started thinking I was wrong; that the inflatable thing was from last year. I explained what I was talking about. He said he doesn't live here and where did I think he lives. I said his address and he said he lives in Cumberland. I was thinking, "What the heck!" He kept talking and I realized . . . he's not my neighbor! He's our pastor's wife's dad! I think they took too much blood! It went straight from my brain to my arm, I guess. I laughed and asked if he was Diann's dad. He said he is, and I asked if he knows who I am. He knows I go to church there, but doesn't know my name. I explained that he looks like my neighbor and that I was confused.
I told DH what happened and he looked at me like I had completely lost it. I still think there's a strong resemblance. I guess I am just a kook.
I am bummed. I wanted to see "my shows" tonight - Criminal Minds and Project Runway - and neither was a new episode. I was just reading the episode info on CM and I could swear the listing said it was a new episode, but when the show came on, it was a repeat. Am I really just losing it? I guess it's time for bed, eh?

Cancelled
You know, I thought there was a possibility that she'd say that she'd be ok to watch the kids until I got home. Guess not.
So today I was fixing lunch for the kids and I kept hearing Baby cry and Little Boy shushing her. I went back and he had the baby in her crib and wouldn't let her out. AND they had dragged a pile of toys into her room that they had dumped in his room. So now both rooms are a MESS! Grrr.
On a positive note, I finished decorating the Christmas tree this morning. I feel like this week is so relaxed compared to the last couple weeks. I'm hoping to have a little time this week to do some of the holiday stuff I've been wanting to do. And we need to figure out something to give DH's parents. They are the hardest people to buy for.
The other day DH and I were watching TV and someone was talking about spoiled people who get everything they want. I was thinking "Cathy" and "FIL", when DH said, "Like Cathy?" I laughed. I told him I didn't say anything! He said he could read the words coming out of my head.
I now have an even longer list of things to talk to my counselor about since this is the second appt. I've had to cancel. And it's sure to grow after Christmas and New Year's, dontcha know.

Over but not finished

After we dropped it off at church, DH went home to put kids in bed and I went on to the grocery store. It was pretty busy and the store was bringing out huge pallets of food so there was little space to walk. I have some shopping left to do in the next couple days, so I'll be one of those crazy people.
We made it through the weekend! Yea! The weather was supposed to get bad Saturday, we just didn't know when it would get here. Saturday I kept checking the radar online in the middle of everything else I had to do. That afternoon, "Mary" called to say she couldn't make it that night b/c of the weather & b/c her family lives pretty far away from church. What could I say? So I called another family and asked if the daughter Anna could be Mary. We left Baby with G&G and took Tiny Tim to church for practice. Practice was bad. Not completely horrible, but I was a little worried. We had a fairly decent group of people who came to watch. MIL, SIL and her husband and his daughter came and they brought Baby with them. FIL decided to not come. Well, the program went really well. I wanted DH to set up the video camera on the tripod, so he set it up in the back so that he could get the whole stage. He asked SIL to go back and just hit play since he turned it on. Well, she did what he asked. Apparently, however, the camera turned itself off before she got there. But she hit play and we have no video. I really wanted to scream at someone, but I didn't. I think SIL took a couple pictures, but I haven't seen them.
When we left church it had started raining. We got home and DH went next door to get the kids. By the time he came back with them, the driveway was all ice and Little Boy fell. We woke up to about 2 inches of slushy ice on the driveway and decided to stay home. We started getting snow in the afternoon and within 15 minutes, our grass was covered, and it started getting very windy. I called the pastor's house to be sure we were going to still go ahead with the concert. The pastor's wife acted like I was being paranoid, but I told her we were getting snow here.
Last night we went to practice and had the program again with about 20 people there. We decided to do the program one more time the Sunday morning after Christmas so that more people could watch. I looked at last night's performance as another practice. By the time we left church, the roads were very slippery. We did ok until we got to our hill. We slid a couple times and my stomach lurched each time.
I am so tired today. I woke up with a terrible sinus headache. I have a counseling appt. tomorrow and that't it. I think I'll stop at the mall on the way home and finish our shopping.
I'm posting some new pictures today. Hope you enjoy!

Naptime?
Poor Little Boy. I am tired this morning and have absolutely no patience. He was in the garage with me this morning and everything he was doing was driving me NUTS.
Big news. At least in the little world of Tammy. I called the kid who was supposed to be Joseph to be sure he knew when we were meeting Saturday before the concert. He's the foster kid and his foster mom basically told me that he didn't want to do it. That he probably had to work those nights, and since he just started, he didn't want to ask for the time off. I suggested he call before the schedule came out and ask for different hours. The worst the place could say was no. Well, I called the pastor's wife and asked what I should do since I was pretty sure he wasn't going to come. We brainstormed a little and I suggested a kid whose mom comes regularly, but he only comes occassionally since weekends are divided between mom and dad. She called and he said he'll do it! YEA! Now, I just need to make sure I have a costume that will fit. He's taller and much more muscular than the original Joseph.

Foggy Mornings
Last night I crawled into bed at 1:30 am. I was in the garage painting and lost track of time. I have a couple little things to do to finish Cratchit's house and I started on the stable scene last night. I have the ewe and lamb basically done and a rooster. I have the donkey drawn and the rails of the fence painted. The other panel will have a cow and a couple chickens. I am pretty happy with how things look so far. I showed them to Little Boy this morning and he was full of instructions and suggestions. So I guess I still have work to do; he may be a tougher critic than me!
Last night we had some unexpected visitors - two salesmen stopped by to talk to DH about supplementary insurance. They were here for a long time and we hadn't eaten yet. So I just started cooking. They wanted me to sit and listen to their schpiel so I would know what to do in case of an emergency, but I get irritated when it comes to insurance stuff. There are too many variables, and so DH takes care of all that stuff. The plan DH chose would pay DHs full salary in the event DH is unable to work for 30 days or more. It also has a life insurance policy built in, and if DH does not use the policy for so many years, they pay the whole amount+ back. Dinner was ready before the guys finally left. Our dinner wasn't piping hot, but it was fine. Baby definitely does not like fish. She ate a bite and then drank half her cup of water. I did get her to take 2 more bites, but it was not easy. I guess she gets it from me; I like pan fried fish occasionally, but fish is not my fave.
Our children decided to entertain the salesmen. Little Boy had to tell the guys all about tanks, and Baby kept showing stuffed animals to them. The one guy - the true salesman-type - was admiring DHs paint job in the corner of our living room. He went on and on about it. I was just thankful that the kids were dressed and that the house is basically clean from last week's deep cleaning.
This morning our little tree took a dive. Little Boy jumped into the big living room chair (something I've told him many times to not do) and it slid into the tree. I am just glad that it fell the way it did; it could have fallen into the china cabinet. I will never buy a piece of furniture that has a curved glass front! I am so scared that one day it will get broken and the glass will fall on my kids.
Maybe tonight we can decorate our tree. Right now it's in front of the picture window with just lights. OH! Last night MIL called. She was wondering where we put our couch that was in front of the window. I told her we put it in the dining room. She was surprised it fit there. Then she said, "I guess I'm just nosey. Do you mind telling me who your visitors were?" I told her it was just some insurance salesmen, and she said, "Oh. Well, I guess now I can sleep peacefully." Oh my word. I guess the fog wasn't thick enough, huh?

Surviving Sunday
DH put the background sets together for me - 2 sheets of luan with 3 hinges and 2x2s for stability where the hinges attach to form a corner. I painted them both with the dark gray primer I got and started painting the Cratchit's home. I found clipart that I put into Publisher and inserted a grid to help when I started painting free hand. I almost finished the house Saturday night. I need to finish it and then paint the stable scene. That is going to be more difficult since it's not just straight lines and b/c I'm so picky. I'll have to post pictures when I'm done.
Sunday was a rush-around. Seems like every Sunday morning, just as we are about to rush out the door, DH needs to use the bathroom. I really try to be understanding, especially since Sunday mornings affect me the same way, but it gets a tiny bit irritating. So we fly out the door and drive 15 minutes to church. It is hard to resist looking down the street as we pass our old church 3 minutes down the road. Some people are usually just arriving as we pass, and all I can think is how glad I am we are not going there!
We did all the things we normally do at church and left. On the way home we made our usual stop at McD's to pick up lunch. We got home and changed into "comfy clothes", and sat down to eat. Now Little Boy decided he wanted a cheeseburger yesterday. DH ordered: "Cheeseburger with extra pickles and no onions." How does that translate into: "Hamburger with ketchup, mustard, pickles and onions." It never fails! We get home and one of our orders is wrong. If we buy from this McD's one day a week, and our order is usually wrong, imagine how many orders get messed up all week long! DH said, "(Our last name) luck (bad) can't account for all the messed up orders!" DH suggested we try something new. I started thinking, "I don't want to cook on Sunday afternoons!" when he asked if I thought DQ would make it home warm. What a dear. I don't know if it would, but we can try! I know what someone is thinking. "Why not just eat at a restaurant?" A couple reasons - we are attempting to get home, eat and get kids down for naps on time. We also don't want to eat out with the kids in their/our Sunday clothes. And finally, DH gets irritated too easily by other people and by our kids acting up. My intention in getting McD's is to alleviate the stresses on ALL of us. I include this into our meal planning. So next week we may be trying DQ.
So I quickly ate my meal and rushed off to Wal-Mart to look for a folding cot. The only one they had was $40. Grrr. Then I bought more paint for my sets, grabbed a couple groceries we really needed and rushed home. I finished gathering props and sat down for a couple minutes. We took Baby next door to G&Gs, got in the vehicles and left. Left something important at home, that is! DH had taken the CD out of my box of the program music to listen to a couple songs that he's going to try singing with the choir. This is the CD I had dubbed for the sound guy that had all the songs numbered and in order - that coordinated with his instruction sheets.
I could have cried. DH thought I picked it up since he left it on top of the kleenex box on the kitchen table. I thought he had put it back in my box. Needless to say, the kid running the sound had a difficult time last night. We went through the program twice. As DH started his narrator part, I had to shush the choir. I was really stressed and the teacher came out in me. I let them know I expected everyone to stay on point and make the most of our practice time so we didn't have to schedule any extra practices. I hope I didn't offend anyone. I am afraid my "teacher look" may have surprised some of the older ladies. We had to stop often, but I think the actors got the gist of it and we'll go through it again Saturday before the performance. Little Boy did a good job being Tiny Tim. He's practicing with his crutch this week and seems to be excited. It will be nice if Joseph turns up. We practiced without him yesterday and he never called. He's a foster kid and I sure hope he hasn't left. I have no idea what I would do.
By the time we packed up, I was finally feeling better. I mentioned that making it through last night was the peak of stress for me. DH laughed. He said he wanted to see how I did Saturday and Sunday nights. I still think the worst is over. The costumes are done. The set fits where I wanted it and I know where I want to put the props. The actors basically know what they are doing and Little Boy didn't have a meltdown. He didn't even freak out when Scrooge joyfully tossed him into the air at the end.
Baby seemed to do well next door, although she asked all night for her brother. She drank 3 sippy cups of water. That is more than she usually drinks at home. I was just so glad they had given her Pepsi! She had a soaker didie this AM. And it was still on her; thanks in part to the tape. I think since we started taping it, she has realized it's futile to try to get naked. I can hope, can't I?
I am really looking forward to the 17th and this play is over. I am just a little afraid that no one will come. Oh well. So glad it's Monday!

Is that a toboggan on your head?
Ok. I know people in the mid-west have some funny names for common things. Like a bubbler. If I asked someone if there was a bubbler nearby, I am sure they would look at me funny. (The bubbler was patented by Kohler Water Works in Kohler, WI - maybe that's why people in WI know its proper name!) And if I was looking for a tamarack tree, people here would not have a clue what I was talking about. But people in the mid-Atlantic region have funny names for things, too!
I know there are other funny things, like if it rains hard, "they" say it "poured the rain down." And they call a slide a sliding board. Oh well. At least I am easily entertained! Ha ha.
I'm baaaaack
Monday and Tuesday I cleaned. Tuesday night was the ladies' fellowship Christmas party and it went well. Wednesday we got snow. I took the kids out to play in the snow after I finally located Little Boy's snow pants. Grrrr.
I am easily frustrated, but not being able to locate things drives me CRAZY. And usually I can visualize the last time I saw the item which makes it even more frustrating.
Baby has a new phase. Naked baby. When I get her out of her bed, she is nude. And half the time her bedding is wet - yuck. So, last night, I taped her diaper shut. We'll see if she's still covered in a little bit.
Hope you are all enjoying the last 19 days leading up to Christmas. My house is now clean - a little messy, but clean! I've decided to move the sofa that is in front of the front window to the other side of the dining room table and we'll put the tree in the middle of the picture window. I am looking forward to getting it up.
Well, I need to get something done today. My next week will be filled with fixing costumes, gathering props and painting sets for the program on the 15th and 16th. I'll be relieved when it's over!

What was he thinking?
I had to call DH at work today to ask him to pick up some prescriptions for me, and I told him that I woke up really angry with him this morning. He at least sounded genuinely concerned and then I told him it was b/c I was still angry that he brought home his new wife yesterday. He just laughed. I've had dreams about him and his girlfriend who makes peach cobbler for him, and other dreams where I've woken up FURIOUS with him. Poor guy. I feel like such a psycho.
Tonight is hair-cut night. Yea! I gave both kids a bath this morning to get the smell of PlayDoh off them and to clean Little Boy's sweaty hair - Army helmets need more ventilation and to clean Baby's hair that is stuck to her stuffy nose when she wakes up - Ewww. I am sure Brian will appreciate it.
I need to try to shake off the anger before DH gets home. At least now he'll know that a second wife isn't a good idea, huh?

Psoriatic Arthritis
I looked at fridges today. I think we found one at a builders surplus store. They sell dent & scratch stuff, but since it's going in the basement, we don't really care that it has a dent. It is marked down about $400, and is a bit bigger than we had been looking at, so we think it's a really good deal.
Little Boy is totally enthralled with PlayDoh at the moment. He wakes up in the morning and asks (at 6:30 am!) to play with it. Grrr.
I need to go get something together for dinner. More later.

Sunday
So, church - I taught SS and made it through the morning service. There are days I wonder if I'm ADD. I just cannot follow what the pastor is teaching b/c a million other thoughts are flying around in the attic. I did make a list of things I needed to do in the afternoon to be ready for choir tonight. Practice was really good. We have 2 more Sundays to practice and I think we're going to do well. Just need to find a Bob (Cratchit, that is). I may have to resort to someone ... old? Someone suggested to me tonight that Mr. so and so would be a good Scrooge. (They didn't see the script or they would know I would have had to pick a Scrooge ages ago!) Well, this guy is in his 70s. And NOT Scrooge material.
Got home in time to tuck in the kids and watch a little TV with DH. Had to go in and give Baby a drink to help her stop coughing. Seems to have worked for the time being. Seems she forgot how to "blow" her nose just recently and refuses. She, like all babies, HATES the "booger bulb" and I either have to practically lay on top of her or it takes 2 adults. Either way, I think she cries so much her nose fills right back up, so what am I supposed to do? I also have been using a saline nasal spray, vicks plug-ins and cold/cough med. Poor kids.
This week is just crazy. Tomorrow am (or should I say later this morning) I have a dentist appt. Tomorrow is my counseling session, and Wednesday I see the osteoporosis doctor to see if he can diagnose my leg pain. Thursday we all have haircuts. And b/c the week was too slow, I scheduled a practice for the people in the play part of the program for Tuesday pm. Woo Hoo. I'm so excited about running in circles. Later, 'gator!

What day is it?
I think I may have solved my dilemma with needing someone to be Joseph. I am going to ask the teen boy in the choir to be Joseph and we'll set the creche scene on stage and he can walk in and out of it when he sings and is needed in the play. I'll just have to do some rearranging of the staging. Gotta do what ya gotta do.
I picked up stamps yesterday for Christmas cards. Guess that means I need to work on cards someday soon. Just add it to my list of things to do.
Wednesday DH put the Christmas lights up on the house. While he was moving the ladder, he broke the storm window in Baby's room. She was napping at the time and I went in there as soon as DH told me. She kept saying, "Scared," and "Broke it." Poor baby. FIL had the glass replaced and DH put the window back last night. Oh well.
I turned the lights on Thursday night; they look so pretty. And then DH and Little Boy decorated the porch yesterday and finished last night. It was so cold; I think I would have waited until today, but they wanted to get it done. So, for the first time he can remember, we are the first house on our street to get lights up and turned on. Little Boy keeps asking if it's Christmas. I think he's getting excited. We told him last night that we're only getting him and his sister a couple presents. He didn't seem to happy, but I know he'll enjoy the gifts he's getting. Why do i feel a little guilty for not over-indulging him? What a trap!
More later.

How does she do it?
I just don't know how she does it. Last year it was the shopping cart fiasco. I was going to get 2 shopping carts from Playskool, but she told me not to b/c she had ordered one. I went ahead and ordered one. The one she ordered was a flimsy piece of junk that has wobbly, rotating wheels that rattle so bad I banished it to outside play. I really don't know if it's the wheels or the fact that she bought it. The kids fight over the one cart so much that I wish I had just bought 2 anyway.
So, MIL let me know this AM that C. left work early Wed. b/c she was feeling sick. FIL was concerned b/c she didn't have a voice, and offered to go get her (40 min. drive) and take her to a walk-in clinic (50 min. drive) and then take her home (50 min. drive) and then come home (40 min. drive). Hmmm. Didn't I lose my voice a very short while ago? MIL assured me at the time that she was sure I'd be fine. Sick. So, MIL then tells me that C. was not cooking dinner for her in-laws and MIL invited her and her DH to come eat with all of US. WHAT? If she's THAT sick she needs to STAY HOME! Until we got there, we didn't know if we should bring along our masks. Apparently she decided to stay home. MIL said it was so sad that she couldn't even enjoy Thanksgiving dinner. I reminded her that last year our family was sick and WE didn't have Thanksgiving dinner. It took her a while to remember, but she did. Whatever.
I baked the Schwann's pie and made a pecan pie. The pecan pie was a little too sweet. I think I'll try something else next time.
MIL told Little Boy tonight that she is going to clear off the end of the dining room table. She has snow houses and some animated snow scenes that she leaves out all year b/c Little Boy loves them. She announced at the dinner table that she had to do that to make room for 3 more chairs (C., DH and his daughter). Little Boy got very upset. So why didn't she just do it instead of getting him worked up? Like we care why.
I guess it boils down to just about everything she does bugs me.
Thanksgiving Day
I was talking Little Boy this morning about the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving dinner. He told me (with his "I'm smarter than you" look) that it wasn't just those people, but the Indians, too.
We have the Macy's Day Parade on and so far have only seen Broadway stuff - the kids keep asking when they'll see Jo Jo's balloon. How am I supposed to know? The Rockette's costumes are UGLY.
Last night I made cranberry jello salad for MIL. It is really good; we have it at Thanksgiving and Christmas every year. Of course, DH won't touch it. I plan on making a pecan pie and cooking the Schwann's pumpkin pie MIL gave me to bake. I looked on the box but couldn't find an expiration date. Hopefully it's not from last year. (That has happened.) Ewww.
I got an email from my older sister. She is missing family. I was thinking about Thanksgiving dinner at G&G's. We had to sit around a little table on all kinds of little chairs. It was best when we were too little to wash and dry dishes. You'd think with all the adult women there, we wouldn't have had to do the clean up. Remind me that in a couple years, huh?

Wanna hear a good one?
I explained I was putting him in bed, and he and Baby started fighting. You'd think she'd offer to call back, but she kept right on asking questions about messages she's seeing on her computer regarding her printer not working. Now, if I sit down in front of my computer and can try to figure out what she's doing wrong, I might be able to help. Or if I can see her computer for myself, I could probably help. But with two toddlers fighting and crying and a sound spa set on white noise . . . I told her I'd have DH come check it when he gets out of bed. Just then Baby started wailing and I got off the phone.
"Did I get you out of bed?" Yeah, right. I wish.
Things my kids told me today
Little Boy is so excited that G&G are next door. The first thing he said to me this morning was, "Can I go to G&G's?" He got up and got dressed and was searching for clean socks. I was exhausted, lying on the couch - not a morning person, ya know. He asked again about going to see G&G. I told him the neighbors were still sleeping, and he'd be better off eating breakfast. He asked me for a fried egg and a waffle. I opened one eye and asked him if I looked like I wanted to cook an egg and waffle. He laughed, "No, but I know you can do it, Mommy." I'm such a pushover. Guess who ate a fried egg and a waffle for breakfast?
This morning he said he wanted to live next door and just come visit us here. I told him that wasn't going to happen. Know what he said?! "Well, if Daddy dies, and you die, and my sister dies, then I will go live with G&G." (Hope he's not planning something.) I told him that wasn't going to happen, either. That if something terrible happened like that, he was going to live with Uncle Luke and Aunt Anna. He asked why and I told him that's what Daddy and Mommy had decided. He didn't look too excited. Oh well.
Baby came over to me with her Grandma doll from her dollhouse set. Pointed to Grandma's bottom and said, "She's poopy. Wipe." Maybe we'll be ready for potty training soon.
I sure will be glad when DH is back on a regular schedule. He's on nights right now and it is so hard for me to make myself go to bed at a decent time. So it's no wonder I'm exhausted. Can't wait for nap time!

Making lists
DH went to the doctor last night. The doctor thinks DH sounds like he has a touch of bronchitis. I'm glad I sent him. Hopefully he'll start feeling better soon.
Today the neighbors move back. Little Boy is very excited and keeps asking when he can go see them. Starting to get annoying.
Yesterday I was talking to MIL. She was talking about how busy she was going to be in the next couple days with moving down and unpacking and then getting ready for Thanksgiving dinner. I offered to make the turkey to help out. She called me back in the afternoon. Said C. said if I made the turkey it might be difficult for MIL to make the noodles w/o the turkey broth and difficult to make the gravy. My intention was to help MIL, so I don't mind making something else, but it really irks me that C. thinks she's in charge of our dinner, too. I wanted to call her and tell her to mind her own business. Course, I wouldn't do that. I guess that was my Grrr for yesterday.
I need to go to the grocery store today. I imagine it'll be crazy busy, but I need to go. I want to sit down this morning and figure out my appetizers for the ladies' fellowship and get some of the stuff for that.
Remind me next fall that I am crazy for doing all this and tell me not to do it again.

So much for plans
So, I have a Mary. For the play, that is. Now all we need is a Bob Cratchit and Joseph. I'm getting a little desperate. I've been trying to convince Little Boy that he'll have lots of fun playing Tiny Tim in the play. We've reached the bribe stage. I told him that I'll take him to WalMart and he can pick out a toy after he finishes the play. I also told him G&G would be so proud of him and that we can invite his aunt and her husband. We'll see, huh?
DH is still sick and Little Boy and I are fighting it off, too. Seems like Baby has avoided it so far, but it's just a matter of time before she gets sick, too.
Today is a stay home and relax day. At least, that's the plan for now.

We shopped til we dropped
Yesterday was a looonnngggg day. Little Boy and Baby got to spend the day with G&G. DH and I went shopping to the outlet stores and Sam's Club 1 1/2 hours away. I spent way too much money. MIL sent along some money to buy things for Christmas that we saw we liked for the kids or for us. We found some fun things. KB toys had a great deal - buy 3 - get a 4th toy free. We spent a long time wandering the outlet stores and then went to Sam's. We had a cart full. Good thing we brought the Explorer - (it's still loaded this morning).
We got back to Cumberland and stopped at Wal-mart to look for something to help Little Boy with his stuffy nose and cough. I found stuff for daytime, but I guess kids under 6 don't have a stuffy nose or cough during the night, because there isn't any OTC meds for them.
After 12 hours away from home, we got back to G&G's house about 10 pm. By the time the kids got into bed, it was 11. DH and I sat down and watched CSI and then went to bed. We both had a restless night coughing. We need to find a way to get healthy.
There were 4 messages on the phone last night. We always seem to get popular when we're out of the house. :0] I have some homework to get done. TTYL.

Went to the dentist
I got to sleep a couple hours and then had to get up. I'll have to get a nap later. I got a quick shower and left for the dentist - 35 minutes away. Well, I knew I had a cavity, but I didn't know the dentist was going to remove the old filling and take off 1/4 of my tooth - top molar all the way in the back - and then build it all back again. The worst parts were the shots and sitting upside down in the chair - by the time I was done, my arms were shaking from holding on so tight.
I get to eat soup for lunch and pasta for supper and something soft for breakfast tomorrow. Isn't that great?
Baby just got bit by the black furball. He rarely breaks the skin when he bites her, but of course, it still hurts. So now he's banished back to the den and Baby is wandering the house calling for him.
Maybe more later. Gotta go find some soup.

Cleaning out closets
When the pastor's wife came, she said the costumes were supposed to be in a closet in the teen classroom. When we opened the door, I wanted to run. I wanted to forget the box of costumes and sew all new ones so that I wouldn't have to dig through the stuff. Well, we started moving stuff out and threw out a bunch of JUNK, and we did locate the boxes of costumes. OK. I'm glad we kept looking - the costumes are all in ziplock bags and labeled nicely. We decided January would be a good month for a closet cleaning "party".
I made a couple calls today for the program, and asked Little Boy if he would like to be in the program as Tiny Tim. He wouldn't have any lines and would have Mrs. Cratchit to lead him along. This is a dangerous idea, as he could very well have a meltdown and refuse for a multitude of reasons.
I check about 5 newspapers every day to try to keep up with news (and obits) from some of the places I've lived. I had to laugh at an article in the Rhinelander Daily News in regards to a bow hunting season within the city limits. I wish we had a season like that. I'd sit on my front porch and take out the rotten deer that eat my flower garden during the summer.
DH is off work tomorrow and Thursday. He'll probably be relieved to go back Friday night. Tomorrow morning I go to the dentist to get a cavity filled. Yea. Thursday I think we're going to Sam's Club in Hagerstown. G&G are going to babysit. Should be interesting.
We haven't heard any updates on Thanksgiving plans. Maybe DH will ask again Thursday. We've earned a "free" turkey at the grocery store. I asked DH if I should buy a small one or a huge one. He asked if there was anything in between. Is there?
Last night after I put the kids to bed I started getting a tickle in my throat. By the time DH got home, I had no voice. Today it's wobbly sounding and my throat feels parched. I slept on the couch to make sure DH was able to sleep. When he got up this morning, I went back to bed and slept a little more. I can't believe I'm sick - again. Blah.
At the left, I've added a list of blogs I've been visiting. When I get to a blog, I check out the list of blogs they visit, and then the list of blogs the next blogger visits. It's an endless rabbit trail. Maybe the tunnel leads to the church's storage closet. I'm sure there is junk in there that would be useful for some of the altered art bloggers. Enjoy.

Let the craziness begin!
I have offered to hostess the ladies' fellowship Christmas party again this year. I definitely won't be going as all-out as I did last year. I am finding easy make-ahead recipes for 3 appetizers and I'm making my easy cranberry cookies.
Super Simple Cranberry Sugar Cookies
1 15.6-oz. package Pillsbury Cranberry Quick Bread & Muffin Mix
3/4 C. butter, softened
3 T. sugar
Heat oven to 350° F.
In large bowl, combine quick bread mix and butter; mix well. Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten balls to 1/8-inch thickness with bottom of glass dipped in sugar.
Bake at 350° F. for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool 2 minutes; remove from cookie sheets. Makes 3 1/2 dozen cookies
(I found a bowl with a patterned bottom to flatten the cookies.)
The biggest project is directing the Christmas program/play/concert December 8 & 9. I wanted to schedule it this date for 2 reasons. First, let's get the thing over as soon as possible so I can enjoy ? Christmas. Second, one of the altos won't be in town the following weekend. Her husband also runs the sound, but DH informed me last night that the sound guy will be working last shift that week and won't even be able to be there. GRRR. Oh well. My first reason stands.
I talked to DH about the playhouse for the kids. We looked at the plastic houses that Little Tykes and Step 2 sells. For about the same price, we think we can build one that the kids will be able to use for many years. So, we need to go price the lumber, etc. I found a kitchen set and a workbench for the kids that are about $50 each. I think they will fit nicely into the playhouse eventually. Also, found play microphones on stands - one for each. And then Little Boy asked for a fire truck. So, I guess we'll need to find one since it's the first thing he's really ever asked for. I want to spend about $100 on each kid, but I can see that budget is already gone. Regardless, this year we are spending less on them each. I have no idea what to get IL's. They've told us to give them a list already. We want to ask them to help us buy a new fridge/freezer for the basement.
I have a couple ideas for the kids, but nothing as exciting as the playhouse. Here's a picture of the house we want to price out:

Well, I need to get sleepy Baby out of bed. DH is working a swing shift this week and is on 2nd today. Means we can have an easy dinner. :-)
Hope you're all well. Talk to you soon!

Discernment?
Friday, November 9, 2007
It's Friday!

I hurried and paid, got the kids in the car and rushed to the nearby Burger King. We ran in, used the bathroom and left. When I turned the car onto Main St. here in town, the kids' rocket cups tipped over on the floor and I had to find a place to stop and set them up. Cherry cherry limeade spilled on the floor. Grr.
We got home and Granddad was here. The men were working on the driveway next door. So, I took the kids down to see the progress. Baby didn't want me to hold her; she wanted Granddad. We got to the house and started getting ready for naps and Daddy got home. It was nice to have help, but wow - we were so behind schedule.
Little Boy woke up badly. He was crying unconsolably and only wanted Mommy - but I was in the middle of the project of the day - week? month? I cleaned/straightened the freezer. Yea! For the time being, I know what is in there and where it is. He only wanted Mommy to blow his nose. I feel so special.
I had to wake Baby. She's such a sleeper. When she woke up, she said she wanted out. I changed her diaper and asked her if she wanted me to hold her. She told me, "Granddad". She wanted him to hold her, and wanted to call him on the phone. If they only understood.
On the way up the mountain Little Boy and I saw a hawk land on the ground next to the road. It was a beautiful bird. I hope you all enjoy the pictures at the bottom of the page of all the wildlife/wild children who live on our hill.
I was thinking yesterday about how funny Dad was. I was thinking about the New Year's Eve party at Maranatha when Dad told his 500 lb. canary joke and Jill K.'s high chair flipped and she and another baby were crying. I have to laugh mostly because of the looks on the adults' faces. They were shocked that Dad - such a laid-back guy, yelled so loudly. He sure loved a good joke!

Uneventful is good, right?
I spent a couple minutes downloading pictures from the cameras to the desktop. When I came out of the den, the big black furball escaped. Baby is having so much fun chasing him around, I've left him out for now. She thinks she needs to entertain him, and keeps asking him questions and offering him toys. I wonder how long until he runs back out to the safety of the den.
Last night was interesting. DH and I went to my counseling appt. and of course, the first topic and almost only topic was the whole Thanksgiving fiasco. Poor DH. He left MY counselor with homework. When we got home, G&G had brought Little Boy and Baby next door to their house. DH called MIL back to the computer room and talked to her about Thanksgiving. He never did get her to understand his point - that C shouldn't be allowed to make decisions that affect the whole family. In particular, he thinks it's wrong to take G&G away from our kids. She just made excuses for C. Said C would have prefered to have the dinner at the lake house, but her husband said no. DH told her about my idea to have a family dinner Saturday with everyone invited. No plans were finalized. I imagine she wants to talk to FIL. She did say they were not planning to go to C's - FIL refuses. I find this a bit humorous, in an evil way, b/c C's motives often seem to revolve around wanting to please FIL. As the world turns. . .

DH and I went to DQ afterwards. It was nice to sit and enjoy eating together in quiet. And we splurged - we both got Pumpkin Pie Blizzards. If you haven't tried them, you need to. They are soooo good. There is broken up pie crust and if you ask, they sprinkle nutmeg on top. It's all topped off with whipped topping. And there are no calories OR fat grams. Ha ha.
On our way home we saw snow in the air. Only tiny flurries, but snow. Little Boy was so thrilled when he heard the weatherman say we were supposed to get snow. I'm not ready for snow. I'll be thrilled if snow holds off until the middle of December. Fat chance.
I'm posting some recent (and not so recent) pictures at the bottom. Enjoy.
